Throughout the course of my career at Towson University I have been required to complete countless assignments for various purposes. For my Media Criticism class, I was required to complete a series of blogging assignments. I believe that this has been one of the most interesting learning experience I have had yet. For my most recent assignment, I was required to discover three of my fellow classmates blogging assignments, red and analyze them, and then respond. I found that my fellow classmates are as intersting as they are different. I read things from the monopilization of the mass media, to the naturalization of the ideas presented in the Lion King. I was taken on a journey through the years of disney and how they try to dominate us as a media dependent society, while all at the same time learning a great deal of information.
I chose the follwing three blogs because I felt they were the best demonstrations of what a blog should look like, and they were related to topics that interest me. By the time I had completed reviewing each blog I felt that I had just been through a course in itself with all of the information I was able to observe. I felt that this series of blogging assignments was an excellent teaching tool, and I may even use my blog in the future although it is not required.

Nick, I thought this blog was an excellent template for how all blog posts should look. I felt that you strongly demonstrated the idea of ideological criticism, and how it can be applied to media texts by critics such as oursleves in media criticism class. You did an excellent job in demonstrating how disney exerts is seemingly endless power over society. Some of the things that led to the success of this blog included, but were not limited to, your use of vivid imagery, your points on consumerism and materialism, and your use of facts and images to add to the overall quality of the work. The one fact that really grabbed my attention was mentioned about halfway through your blog, and really kept me intrigued. This was that you mentioned the fact that children under the age of 12 were targeted and in turn led to their parents purchasing over 700 billion dollars in disney products. This was an astounding fact that really grabbed my attention. Also, you did a solid job of identifying exactly what ideological criticism is, and how disney uses it to dominate the media industry.
The only thing I would suggest working on is your word choice. Sometimes you use the wrong word in a certain context, or you simply mix two words up. This is a simple fix, as you can just re-read your work and return to it to later fix it. All in all, however, this was a fantastic post, and I feel it exemplifies what all professional style blogs should look like. Keep up the great work!

Sekou, I would like to start by saying that you did a great job on this blog. I really liked your reminiscent tone that was evident in the beginning of the piece. I was able to relate to what you were saying about being a young child and watching the lion king without a care or worry in the world. I too saw it as a tale of heroism and was thoroughly entertained. You did a good job introducing the fact that only now, as media critics, can we be fully aware of the messages the lion king was trying to get across to the audience. I learned through your blog that not only do media elites try to establish dominance amongst the media corporations, but they also try to instill views on each and every age group possible. Not only are young children being targeted by the lion king, but even older people and all of those in between.
One of the very few things I would have liked to have seen in your blog was a bit more solidified information or statistics that could prove and bolster your points. It is one thing to hear about the dominating power of Disney, but it is another to actually see the numbers on how it affects us as a society. All in all this was a great effort and a learning experience for me.

Kelli, I felt that you did an excellent job in a variety of ways in creating this blog. You were insightful, and went into great detail in describing the show modern family, and the accompanying genre criticism approach to understanding it. I was not fully aware of how genre criticism worked until I witnessed how you used it in your blog. You did a fantastic job demonstrating how it is a three part approach using the cultural diamond. There was also a good amount of information about the show modern family that I did not know before reading your blog. I have watched mockumentaries such as the office and reno 911, but never have I really understood the genre. Your blog led to a greater understanding of the genre, and a solid backing to the genre criticism approach in media criticism.
The lone suggestion I would make would be to give a more solid introduction, so as to give an outline to the reader. This helps to draw in viewers, and create a higher level of organization. Overall, however, I feel that this was a strong demonstration of how a blog should look, with plenty of factual and personal backing to create a well-rounded blogging experience.
